Seahawks go 3-2 in Cowtown

FORT WORTH – The Lamar State College Port Arthur softball team picked up a win against Luna Community College on Saturday afternoon to go with two wins on Friday as they went 3 of 5 at the Cowtown Classic Softball Tournament.
The 12-4 win over Luna CC came after a 12-5 losing decision to Butler CC earlier on Saturday. The Seahawks, who are now 3-4 for the season, beat Allen CC and Snead State CC, while losing to Jefferson College on Friday.
FRIDAY
LSCPA 6, Allen CC 4
Savana Guidry was 2 for 4 at the plate with a triple, adding two runs batted in and two runs scored. Kayla Sheridan, who was 2 for 4 hitting, picked up a triple, while Briana White had an RBI double in the game. Kelsey Stewart got the decision on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, allowing one earned run on six hits. Ashley May allowed just two hits in 4 1/3 innings of work, striking out 10 with one walk for LSCPA.

Cameron Greaves took the loss on the hill for the Seahawks after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, while Holly Little allowed another eight earned runs in relief. Sheridan was 2 for 2 at the plate with a run scored. Regan Dowers had two RBI and a run scored, while Desiree Barrera added an RBI on a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

SNEAD STATE CC 4
Sheridan put on a hitting clinic against Snead State, going 4 for 4 with an RBI triple and a run scored as she led the Seahawks to the win. The Sulphur, La., sophomore also had three stolen bases. Moreno, May and Guidry each doubled with May going 2 for 4 at the plate. Alexis Perez, May and Guidry each also had stolen bases. May went the distance on the hill, allowing four earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
SATURDAY
BUTLER CC 12, LSCPA 5
Briana White launched the first home run of the season for the Seahawks but Butler CC answered with three of their own, including a grand slam, in taking a seven-run decision over the Seahawks. Perez and Guidry each had a double for the Hawks with Perez going 3 for 3 with a run scored. Moreno was 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and stole two bases while Sheridan finished 2 for 4 hitting. Stewart took the loss on the mound, allowing six earned runs on seven hits while White allowed two earned runs on eight hits.
LSCPA 12, LUNA CC 4
Perez and May each had home runs and Dowers and Barrera each doubled as the Seahawks rained down 13 hits in their eight-run win. May finished 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored, while Marisol Ynfante was 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored. Sheridan, who scored twice, was 1 for 3 with three more stolen bases. White and Ynfante each also had a base theft in the game. May went the distance on the hill, allowing three earned runs on four hits, striking out eight and walking four.

LSCPA returns home for a non-conference doubleheader against Angelina College at Martin Field, starting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Friday, the Hawks host their home tournament, a two-day affair in Beaumont. They face North Central Texas College at noon and Trinity Valley Community College at 2 on Friday, then challenge Baton Rouge CC at 9 a.m. and Faulkner State CC at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.
