Mildred Jeanne Hebert, 89, Lafayette, La., formally of Port Arthur, Tx., passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in Lafayette, La.

Mildred was born in Maurice, La., on July 6, 1927, to the late Wilton and Therese Mhire. She loved cooking and listening to her Cajun music. Mildred was married to Alton Hebert on October 20, 1923. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was actively involved in the Rosary group and volunteered in the kitchen and nursery. Mildred had a passion for her family and friends and caring for her elderly neighbors.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Hebert; son, Felton Hebert; sisters, Genevieve Himel, Wilda Broadhead and Betty Mhire. She is survived by her children, Shirley Simon (Melvin), Alice Stom (Patrick), and Arlene Savoy (Jerry). She leaves behind grandchildren, John Simon (Carla), Angela Sterling (Tommy), Jason Myers (Christie), Chris Myers (Janet), Gene East (Ashley), Jerry Savoy, Jr., Heather Strother (Brent), Melissa Hebert, Kelly Hebert, and Heather Maddox (Jimmy); 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild to cherish her memories.

A Christian Vigil and Rosary will be recited Friday, February 3, 2017, at 5:00 p.m., with the family receiving guests from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th Street, Port Arthur, TX. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Orange. Pallbearers include John Simon, Jason Myers, Chris Myers, Gene East, Jimmy Maddox and Jerry Savoy, Jr.; and Honorary Pallbearers: Blaine Myers and Gage Savoy.
