A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a Port Arthur woman who police say broke into her ex-husbands home, stole a firearm, wrecked and shot a golf cart and pointed a gun at a neighbor and threatened to kill him if he didn’t give the location of her ex before firing a random shot.

Becky Sumlin, 60, was indicted for burglary of a habitation with intended other felony and violation of protective order.

Police were called to the 3300 block of 61^st St. on Nov. 25 due to a woman waving a shotgun around and saying she was “going to shoot someone.” Just prior to this call was a call about a woman who had fired a gun at someone then wrecked a golf cart into a ditch at the same location, according to the probable-cause affidavit.

Officers found the woman, later identified as Sumlin, with blood on her clothes, and she appeared to be in an altered mental state or intoxicated.

Police had her sit down as they picked up the shotgun near the wrecked golf cart.

Her ex-husband told police he was behind his house when he heard a loud crash and yelling. That’s when he saw his ex-wife walking around with the shotgun.

Police also said she went to a neighbor’s house, where she began beating on the door demanding the occupants tell her the location of her ex. She then pointed the shotgun at a man who lived at the house and, according to the affidavit, said, “she would kill him if he didn’t tell her where (the ex) was.”

She then took a few steps back and fired the gun in an unknown direction.

Becky Sumlin has a current protective order barring her from being at this location and possessing a firearm. She has violated her protective order for the second time in 12 months, according to the court document.
