Andrew Landry apparently didn’t return to the Bahamas carrying any baggage from the Web.com Tour’s season-opening event there two weeks ago.

The Port Neches-Groves ex, you may remember, started the 2017 season by staggering to an opening-round 87 in 40-mph winds.

Though he rebounded with a 77, Landry missed the cut.

It was a much different story Sunday and Monday in the first two rounds of the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic. Landry overcame five bogeys to open with a one-under 71, then authored a bogey-free 68 in a second round that he wasn’t able to complete up until Tuesday morning.

Sitting on a 36-hole score of 5-under 139 in winds gusting up to 30 mph, the former Arkansas star was tied for fifth, five shots off the lead. With everything backed up because of delays the first two days, he didn’t tee off in round three until late Tuesday afternoon.

The tournament is scheduled to wrap up today, with Golf Channel carrying the action from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Based on Andrew’s first two rounds, where he was No. 1 in driving accuracy, and No. 1 in greens in regulation, he might be getting a lot of air time.

Lamar ex Dawie van der Walt, by the way, missed the cut with rounds of 78-71.

CHIP SHOTS

The Texas-Louisiana Junior Winter Tour got off to a rousing start Saturday with a Texas-record 59 players participating at Bayou Din. The overall record of 70 was set last year at The National in Louisiana. Texans won four of the seven flights, but Louisiana golfers took home the top prize in both of the 16-18 flights.

Brayden Wright of Sulphur won Boys 16-18 with a 1-over-par 71, besting Nederland’s Brendan Marley and Matthew Houston of Lake Charles by five shots. In Girls 16-18, Haley Duff of Lake Charles fired a 78 to finish three shots clear of Kountze’s Elizabeth Townsend.

Caleb Folmar of Buna, with an 82, finished four ahead of Victor Aponte of Port Neches in Boys 14-15, while McKinsey Joe of Lake Charles took Girls 14-15 with a 106. Emma Bruney of Nederland finished second at 110.

Micah Depew of Beaumont, with an 85, was a three-stroke winner over Luke Hightower of Sulphur in Boys 12-13. Xander Parks of Orange prevailed in the nine-hole Co-Ed 10-11 with a 35 that was four better than Lincoln Parks of Orange. Camryn Nelson of Orange shot 26 to claim the 5-hole Co-Ed 7-9 flight over Foster Cecka of Port Neches …

PNG’s boys opened the 2017 portion of their schedule with a tie for 12th in the Klein ISD’s Millard Roth Invitational. The event consisted of 18 holes at Glennloch Pines and 9 holes at Augusta Pines, with weather shortening the final day.

Josh Elmore led the way for PNG by shooting an even par 107 (72-35). Elmore pulled off the shot of the tournament, narrowly missing a double eagle at Gleenloch Pines when a 245-yard, 3-wood second shot ended inches from the hole. He tapped in for an eagle-3.

Other PNG scores included Bryce Parsley at 117 (77-40), Timothy Feemster at 124 (82-42), Chase Selman at 129 (86-43) and Brian Landry at 132 (91-41). …

The Tuesday Twister two-ball game at Babe Zaharias saw the team of Adam Noel, Raymond Darbonne, Rick Pritchett and Mike Hollier team up to win the front in 4-under. On the back, the foursome of Bob West, Larry Johnson, Larry Reece and Bim Morrow placed first at 2-under. …

In the Monday Senior 50 Plus two-ball at Zaharias, there was a two-way tie at minus-2 on both sides by the same two teams. One team consisted of Roddy Weatherly, Gerald Huebel, Larry Foster and John House, while the other winning foursome was made up of Benny Sharpe, Ron Mistrot, ET Robicheaux and Morrow. …

The Saturday Senior two-ball at Zaharias saw the team of Noel, Craig Fontenot, Tony Trevino and Hollier win the front in minus-3. On the back, the foursome of West, Pritchett, Don Duplan and Morrow placed first at minus 1. …

In Friday’s two-ball, there was a tie on the front at minus-1 between the team of Noel, Fontenot, Lee Bertrand and Tonmy Duhon and the team of Russ Gloede, Cap Hollier and Tony Trevino. The back went to the foursome of West, Bob Byerly, Dillard Darbonne and Foster. …

Wednesday’s Babe Zaharias DogFight was won with 17 points by the team of Cricket Owen, Bill Hanley, Duplan and Jess McPhillips. Closest to the pin winners were Lee Bertrand (No. 2), Fontenot (No. 7), Roy Martinez (No. 12) and Ron LaSalle (No. 15). …
