Port Arthur’s Ceja falls in second round of Thursday Combate fight

Port Arthur mixed martial artist Jose Ceja was defeated in the second round of his Combate Americas fight against Joey Ruquet in Mexico City on Thursday night.

Ceja suffered a cut during a fast-paced first round, and he fell into submission in the second round, according to a Combate spokesperson. Ceja’s record dropped to 4-4 overall, including a 3-2 mark in TV fights.

Azteca America and pay-per-view network UFC Fight Pass carried the fight.

The fight card was the first for Combate held in Mexico. The circuit, founded in 2013, is geared toward a Hispanic fan base and includes mostly Hispanic fighters.
