Evelyn Marie Amburn Young, age 99, died Monday, January 2, 2017 in Webster, Texas.
Born October 26, 1917 to Delma Pearl Amburn and Mary Repschlaeger Amburn, Evelyn was the 6th daughter of 12 brothers and sisters. She attended Port Neches High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball. She married Johnny Young in 1933 in Louisiana, travelling to many states for work, finally settling in Port Arthur, Texas.
Evelyn worked for many years as a waitress, until she became active in her children’s lives. She was a member of the PTA at Franklin Elementary, Dequeen Elementary, and Tyrell Elementary. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader for years. She was also an active and lifelong member of the Woodmen of the World and the Woodmen Circle of Jefferson County.
A native of Port Arthur, she lived the last 8 years in Seabrook Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Earl Young, Sr. and son, John Earl Young, Jr. She is survived by her son, Gary Wayne Young, his wife, Kathy; and her daughter, Sheila Marie Young Clark and husband David. She is also survived by two granddaughters and their families; Ellen Young Hopson, husband Jason, great-grandchildren Autumn and Auston; and Jessica Clark Young, husband Clint and great-grandson Caleb. She is survived by one sister, Louise Amburn Barth of Minnesota, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, January 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
