Warnie Davis was born in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, near Jonesville. He grew up on his parents’ cotton farm as a child of the depression. He graduated from Block High School in Jonesville in 1944, and joined the Navy that same year, where he served until 1963. He spent most of his time in the Navy as a hospital corpsman attached to the Marines, and received the Purple Heart in the Korean War. After he retired from the Navy, he spent twenty years in the U.S. Civil Service, most of that time in the Customs Service stationed in Del Rio and Nederland, Texas. He lived in Nederland until 2014, when he moved into a retirement community in Dallas with his wife, Eva.
Warnie enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He followed all sports, but especially enjoyed pulling for his two favorite football teams, the Texas Aggies and the Dallas Cowboys. Warnie enjoyed when people came to visit, and despite his battle with Alzheimer’s disease in the last three years, he always maintained a sense of humor and was glad to have company, especially if they were bringing him a vanilla milkshake.
Warnie is preceded in death by his parents, Wence and Ethel, as well as his brothers D.H., Shelby, and Robert.
He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, the former Eva Lou Young of Jonesville; four sons – Bill and wife Cathy, Mike and wife JoAnn, Tom and wife Andrea, Paul and wife Micheline, and a daughter, Sandra and husband Shane, along with seven grandchildren; Wes, Megan, Alyssa, Claire, Davis, Tyler, and Hannah.
Pallbearers will be family.
