BEAUMONT — Lamar defensive back Rodney Randle will miss the rest of the 2016 season due to an injury suffered in practice Tuesday afternoon, head coach Ray Woodard announced Thursday.
In what has become an all too familiar scene for the Cardinals’ coaching staff in the final six weeks of the season, Randle is just one in a long line of starters who have been injured in the latter half of the season. Randle has started all but one game at cornerback this season for the Cards, who enter Saturday’s game against Incarnate Word with a 3-6 overall record.
Randle finishes the season with 19 tackles, including 12 solo stops. Also a threat as a kick returner, Randle was averaging nearly 20 yards per return this season.
Randle joins a growing list of names that includes All-American Kade Harrington, quarterbacks Carson Earp and Andrew Allen and kicker Alex Ball, who are out with season-ending injuries. Preseason All-American Bret Treadway has also missed significant time on the offensive line this year along with starters John Craven and Matthew Oubre.
