SP voters approve port improvements

Sabine Pass Port District voters gave the green light Tuesday to an estimated $7.5 million in improvement to the port to repair damage caused by Hurricane Ike.
The turnout for the election was 162 voters and 91 of them, 56 percent, voted in favor of the proposition while 71, 44 percent, voted no.
The improvements will include construction of new piers, wharves, docks and related facilities and improvements. These may also include storage facilities, terminal facilities and aides to navigation. More shrimp boats will be able to use the docks when the improvements are completed.
