There’s a new way to show loyalty to the Nederland Bulldogs or Port Neches-Groves Indians and help foster children at the same time.
Court Appointed Special Advocates is hosting the Casas for CASA Mid-County Madness Playhouse Event where raffle tickets are being sold for $5 for one ticket or $20 for six tickets for a chance to win either a large doghouse playhouse or a teepee playhouse.
Mike Laird, assistant superintendent at Nederland Independent School District, feels the Casas for CASA event is great.
“When you think of worth non-profit organizations, CASA is one of the first ones that people think of,” Laird said. “CASA volunteers are the voice in court for the abused and neglected children of Jefferson County. The district is proud to have been part of this great fundraising project that can help with training these wonderful volunteers.”
Pat Briggs, assistant principal and director of student actiitie4s at PN-G High School, said a lot of work went into creating the teepee.
“Our art teachers, Griseida Bryan and Calvin Carter researched authentic Native American teepees and drew the designs on the tipi,” Briggs said. “PNG art students painted the teepee under the supervision of our art teachers. Art teachers then put the finishing touches on the animals and symbols.”
Briggs said they taught the students about the work that CASA does with foster children of Jefferson County while working on the project.
Chris Toomey of DRC Construction had a hand in constructing the Bulldog playhouse.
“CASA does a wonderful job of working with foster children and this is a worthy cause,” Toomey said. “We are glad to be associated with this.”
Cisco Abshire of ITEX Construction worked on the teepee playhouse.
“We wanted to give back to the community and help out any way we could,” Abshire said. “This is a cool concept and goes well with Mid-County Madness.”
Both DRC Construction and ITEX Construction donated materials and built the respective playhouses to be raffled off.
Playhouse sponsors are MCT Credit Union and Gulf Credit Union.
The playhouses are on display at Central Mall through Thursday, Nov. 3. They will then be moved to the PNG High School Stadium on Friday, Nov. 4 where the drawing will take place during the PNG VS Nederland football game. You do not need be present to win.
Tickets can be purchased at www.casa.tx.org or the following locations: MCT Credit Union, Gulf Credit Union Southeast Texas Properties and PV Rentals.
