MONT BELVIEU — Nederland’s stay in the 5A volleyball playoffs lasted only three sets.
New Caney Porter swept Nederland on Monday in the bi-district round at Barbers Hill High School, ending the Bulldogs’ season. Nederland, the District 22-5A co-champion along with Port Neches-Groves, came off a one-game playoff to determine the top seed out of the district and settled for the No. 2 seed after a five-set defeat.
Set scores and statistics were unavailable, but Nederland finished the season following a 13-1 run in district play.
Porter advances to play either Manvel or Furr in the second round.
Tonight, PNG will face Conroe Caney Creek at 7 at Crosby High, with the winner facing Galveston Ball or Houston Austin. In the 4A bi-districts tonight, Bridge City will meet Huntington in Huntsville for a 7 p.m. start, and in 2A, Sabine Pass will take on Groveton at Spurger with first serve scheduled for 6:30.
