Let’s pull together for PA — vote yes on proposal

As I watched the Memorial Titans defeat the PNG Indians a few weeks ago, I couldn’t stop noticing the unity displayed at the game among all the citizens of Port Arthur. It didn’t matter what the color of your skin was, where you came from, or even what language you spoke. The attendance was record-breaking and everyone was cheering together as one body supporting the same cause.

This election, you and all the citizens of this City will have a chance to display the same type of unity. We all will have the opportunity to save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars in unnecessary government spending. There will be a proposal on the Ballot asking if you agree to remove Districts 5 and 6 from the Port Arthur City Council. By voting yes on this proposal, you will increase the efficiency of the Council and decrease the costs of city government. Reducing the number of council members from 9 to 7 would undoubtedly increase council productivity, save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars and help the city grow toward a prosperous future.

Everyone works hard, long hours to make their home a better place for their family and themselves. This city is our home, and God Almighty has afforded me the will and power to move this city in a direction that would lead to a better place for all of us. I am your councilman for District 6, and even though this proposal eliminates my District along with District 5, it is the best and only way to accomplish the goals we all have been striving toward.

Turn to the last page of the ballot and vote yes to eliminate District 5 and 6. Common business sense will tell you that there is no need to pay 9 people for a job that can be done by 7 or less.

I am always blessed and grateful to have served this city, and I am honored to continue my service.

— Your councilman,
Osman Swati
