Sports Mailbag: Titans made like Buffalo Soldiers
Published 9:46 pm Thursday, October 20, 2016
This letter is to PNG Cavness and the victory over your PNG Indians. Some of you may have noticed that I did not put a handle (title) to his name. The reason I did that, he was recently interviewed by the local media. The subject of that interview was President Obama’s transgender bathroom policy. During the interview, he referred to the president as Obama, not President Obama, as I stated in a previous letter to the PA News. You have the right to disagree with the man’s politics, but you do not have to be disrespectful. He is the president and commander-in-chief of the United States and its armed forces. I’m a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, of which he commands.
There was also a PNG fan on social media saying the Titans would not be able to field a full team because report cards were recently issued. That person was suggesting that our players could not make the grade to play. To that person I say, from Superintendent Dr. Mark Porterie, high school Principal Dr. Mitchell and all of the wonderful and professional teachers at Memorial High. They stress academics first. The last 3 Bill Gates Millennium Scholars from the Mid- and South County area came from Memorial High. The last recipient, class of 2016, I’m proud to say is my grandson. Yet you talk that smack and have to come to our house and play us. Not in our house, you don’t.
Now for the game. The PNG Indians rode into Little Big Horn (Memorial Stadium) expecting to do battle with General George Armstrong Custer and the 7th Calvary. Surprise! Who they find waiting for them? A regiment of Buffalo Soldiers from the 10th Calvary, better known as the Memorial Titans. Every time I looked up, their QB was on his back. Our players read that PNG person’s smack about their grades. They were angry and they were taking no prisoners.
Our players did like Teddy Roosevelt. They walked softly and carried a big stick. You talk smack to our team, and they use that stick to go oops upside your head.
By the way Cavness, it’s President Obama until Jan. 20, 2017. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
There’s a new Sheriff in District 22-5A football. That Sheriff is the Memorial Titans. “Remember the Titans.”
