Cardinals fall to Islanders in 3 sets

CORPUS CHRISTI — The Lamar volleyball team suffered its third-straight loss after a 3-0 (22-25, 24-26, 20-25) loss to defending league champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Dugan Wellness Center Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference action.
The Cardinals (3-16, 3-4 Southland Conference) forced the Islanders (13-7, 8-0) to go to 26 points to win the second set. That set had 17 tied scores and six lead changes. The last lead for the Cardinals was 24-23 when Morgan Carlson hit into a service error. Corpus won the set on three-straight kills from Claire Karsten, Kristyn Nicholson and Brittany Gilpan.
Lamar had an 18-15 lead in the second, largely on a five-point run from it. A service error made it 15-15 and Ivette Dim dropped in a service error to make it 16-15. Chelsea Grant, who recorded her 14th double-figure kills match, hit into a kill that made it 17-15 and the final point of the run was an attack error from Madison Fitzsimmons.
The Cardinals return home for a brief, one-game stand against Abilene Christian on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in McDonald Gym. After, LU will head to Nicholls for a Thursday contest and McNeese for a Saturday matchup.
