Cardinals change travel plans

Lamar and Abilene Christian are located in Texas, but it was a storm beating up the Atlantic coast that forced Lamar’s football team to change its travel plans.
Hurricane Matthew forced the Cardinals’ chartered airplane to be grounded in Florida, leaving the team to take a bus to Abilene for Saturday night’s Southland Conference game. The Cardinals are now facing an 8-hour journey which will begin at 8 a.m. today.
Lamar (1-3, 1-1 Southland) and Abilene Christian (0-5, 0-3) kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday in Shotwell Stadium. It is expected to be the last time Lamar visits the Abilene ISD-owned stadium, as ACU plans to open an on-campus facility for next season.
