CYPRESS — Sabine Pass had last won three games in a season 10 years ago, when the program was relaunched.
Now, the Sharks have won three games in a row.
Quarterback Dominique Wilson scored the Sharks’ first two toucdowns, D’Coven Turner rushed for three scores, and Sabine Pass added to its newfound winning streak with a 54-14 win over the Cypress Christian junior varsity Thursday night.
The Sharks (3-1) have gone from losing 18 straight games dating back to 2014 to winning three straight and can win a fourth game for the first time since 1984 (4-6) when they host West Hardin next Friday.
Sabine Pass built a 15-6 lead in the first quarter after Wilson’s second touchdown of the night. Turner rushed for his first TD to make it 21-6, Jamyus Jones ran for a score more than 2 minutes later and Dahlton Gonzales added two points. Turner’s second rushing TD, followed by Logan Odom’s kick, with a minute left made the eventual halftime score 36-6.
It was 42-6 after Glenndell Walker rushed for a score midway through the third. Turner made it 48-6 after running for his final TD.
Gonzales came up with an interception for a Sharks defense that has averaged 10 points allowed per game with 4:47 left in a game. That led to Brayden Miller’s TD carry with 2:28 left to shape up the final score.
That play didn’t put a cap on the Sharks’ victory. Jones recovered the ball on a Sharks’ kickoff.
