LUMBERTON — Abbey Montalvo tallied 36 assists and six aces, and Nederland won its District 22-5A volleyball opener Tuesday at Lumberton 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13.

Montalvo also had nine digs. Darcie Jones dug 25 and collected seven aces, Blake McFarlane made 17 digs, five kills and three aces, Amanda Longlet killed 11 and blocked three, Peyton Parker killed eight and blocked two and Hannah Smith tallied six kills.

“Our aggressive serving and relentlessness is what won the game,” Nederland coach Kristin Lemoine said. “After losing the first set, we cleaned up our unforced errors and made up for that first set. Very pleased with our effort and fight.”

ROCK-A-NOOS ROCK PANTHERS IN SWEEP

BEAUMONT — Bayja Newby accounted for 22 service points, Cheyanne Orozco and Libbie LeJeune each totaled 12, and Port Neches-Groves opened up District 22-5A action Tuesday with a 25-6, 25-16, 25-14 win over Ozen.

Baylee Priddy made 18 assists, Kaitlyn Gill and Orozco contributed eight kills apiece, and Kailey Oliver and Hannah Jones totaled six each for the Rock-A-Noos (15-10, 1-0 in 22-5A).

TITANS DROP FIRST DISTRICT CONTEST

Port Arthur Memorial had a rough going in its first District 22-5A volleyball match despite being at home.

Livingston handed Memorial a 25-11, 25-16, 25-15 defeat Tuesday, putting the Titans at 7-6-1 and 0-1 in the district.

Also Tuesday, host Bob Hope beat Spurger 25-23, 25-11, 25-14. The Eagles improved to 9-4 wit the win and will play in the Young Men’s Business League tournament Thursday at Central along with Sabine Pass. Memorial will also play its pool games in that tourney at Ozen.
