Former Lamar center fielder Jacoby Middleton signed a minor-league contract with the Normal (Ill.) CornBelters of the independent Frontier League.

Middleton was named All-Southland Conference honorable mention this past season, batting .249 with nine home runs. Lamar went 35-19 in coach Jim Gilligan’s final season.

The CornBelters made history earlier this month by signing their first female coach in team history, Justine Siegal. She was the first female to throw batting practice for several MLB teams, including the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.
