George Zahar

George Zahar, 89, of Beaumont, died Saturday, August 27, 2016. He was born on October 4, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Selma Cole Zahar and Samuel Zahar, and had been a longtime resident of Beaumont. George was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He was a retired Chief Engineer with the Merchant Marines.

George is survived by his daughter, Sandy Zahar, of Beaumont; sons, Keith Zahar, of Crystal Beach. George Zahar, Jr., of Dallas, and Sam Zahar, of Austin; grandchildren, Whitney Rich, Kari Zahar, Zakri Zahar, Robbie Scott, and Andrew Zahar; great-grandchildren, Haydn Rich, Ethan Rich, Sam Rich, and Alex Curtis; and sisters, Zanab Zahar and Sarah Zahar, both of Boston, Massachusetts.

A gathering of Mr. Zahar’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer, Winnie. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
