CHARLESTON, S.C. – With less than two weeks remaining until the start of the 2016 season, Lamar senior running back Kade Harrington has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Watch List.
Harrington is one of just 40 players on the watch list which includes 21 running backs, 15 quarterbacks and four wide receivers. The Kingwood native is one of just four players from the Southland Conference represented on the list.
Also named to the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year award watch list – an award he finished runner-up for last season – Harrington burst on the national scene in 2015 when he exploded for 230 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the upset victory at No. 3 Sam Houston State. That game started a record-setting campaign that saw Harrington set a school record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games (eight), a streak that included six 200-yard rushing performances. The high point of 2015 was a Southland single-game record performance of 347 rushing yards and two scores against Abilene Christian.
By season’s end, Harrington became the first player in program history to be named Southland Player of the Year, as he led the nation in rushing (190.2 ypg), all-purpose yards (213.36 ypg) and rushing touchdown (21). He also finished the season second nationally in scoring (12.5 ppg) and third nationally in yards per carry (7.86).
