NEDERLAND — Nederland Police are investigating missing or unaccounted for funds from a Parent Teacher Association group.

Police chief Darrell Bush said a report was filed on Aug. 8 by a representative of the Helena Park Elementary School PTA about missing or unaccounted for finds in excess of $3,000.

“The issue is currently under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time,” Bush said.

Nederland Independent School District released a statement about the reported incident.

“Nederland ISD is aware of an allegation involving Helena Elementary PTA funds. PTA funds are not school district funds. Nederland ISD does not have jurisdiction over the PTA. PTA supports the school but maintains it own accounts. The PTA is working with police to determine if anything inappropriate occurred. Additional information cannot e shared at this time, as this is an open investigation,” the statement read.
