Election filing in municipal races has ended with just one contested race on a local school board.

Two seats are up on Port Neches-Groves Independent School District board of trustees, the Position 4 seat held by Trustee Melanie Miller and Position 5 seat held by Trustee Rodney Balsamo.

Miller will not run for reelection and Port Arthur Police Det. Mark Holmes, 53, is running for the seat.

Incumbent Balsamo is running for reelection and has garnered an opponent — Brandon Cropper, 39, who is a registered nurse.

Early voting for the Nov. 8 election will be from Oct. 24 through Nov. 4.

There were no contested races in Groves or Port Neches.

In Groves, seats held by Ward 2 Councilmember Karen Theis, Ward 4 Councilmember Kyle Hollier, City Marshal Norman Reynolds Jr. and Mayor Brad Bailey are expiring. Both councilmembers, mayor and city marshal have filed for reelection with no opponents.

In Port Neches the Place 1 Councilmember Chris McMahon and Place 2 Councilmember Adam Anders have filed for reelection and did not garner opponents.
