Charles debuts for training camp

Port Arthur native Jamaal Charles made his training camp debut Tuesday morning.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that Charles, who sustained a season-ending ACL injury in Week 5 of last season against the Chicago Bears, would practice on a limited basis. It is not immediately known if the 2005 Memorial alumnus and former Texas running back will be available for Saturday’s preseason game at the St. Louis Rams.

Charles did participate in minicamp for the Chiefs and was helping younger running backs in camp.

“He’s always helping,” running back Charcandrick West said of Charles at camp in an article on JamaalCharles25.com. “Not even football — just in life, period. … Jamaal is a real true leader.”

The Chiefs begin the season at noon Sept. 11 in Kansas City against San Diego and will visit the Houston Texans at noon Sept. 18.
