Hector Garcia, Sr., 72, of Port Arthur, died Thursday, August 11, 2016. He was born on October 23, 1943, to Olivia Lopez Garcia and Roberto Garcia, Sr., in Laredo.

Hector was a United States Army veteran. He served two years as a Port Arthur Police Officer, before retiring from Dupont after thirty years. Hector enjoyed fishing with his children, gardening, and cooking outdoors. He loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Gloria M. Garcia of Port Arthur; daughters, Elaina Garcia (Charlie) of Groves and Laura Garcia of Port Arthur; brother, Robert Garcia Jr. of Port Neches; sisters, Mary Rios of Port Arthur; Magdalena Ramirez and husband, Felix, of Groves; Esther Sanders of Port Arthur; Maggie Wilson and husband, Bobby, of Groves; and Linda Canizales and husband, Johnny, of Groves; sister-in-law, Sylvia Olney of Port Arthur; step father-in-law, Frank Garcia of Port Arthur; brothers-in-Law, Joe Medrano and his wife, Linda, of Mauriceville and David Medrano of Port Arthur; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Monica Garcia-Govea; son Hector Garcia Jr.; mother-in-law, Gloria V. Garcia; and father-in-law, Lirio Medrano.

A gathering of Mr. Garcia’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2016, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
