BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City Cardinals are again searching for a 10th football game, thanks to the Brock Eagles.

Brock, last year’s Class 3A Division I state champion, informed Bridge City coach Dwayne DuBois the Eagles found an opponent closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Brock originally had the opening week of the season open but now plays Stamford in Week 1 and has Week 6 open.

Bridge City already had Week 5 off and was scheduled to play Brock on Sept. 30 in College Station.

The Cardinals are now left with Weeks 5 and 6 off before opening District 10-4A Division I on Oct. 7 at home against Cleveland.

Bridge City to College Station is about 193 miles. From Brock to College Station is 210 miles.
The Eagles in Week 2 play at Midland Christian, 263 miles away.

Bridge City is coming off a 7-4 season in DuBois’ first season with the Cardinals. The Cardinals had gone 2-8 in back-to-back years before DuBois replaced Cris Stump as coach.

Bridge City’s non-district schedule is stacked even without Brock in Week 6. The Cardinals open the year at Hamshire-Fannett before a game against Class 4A Houston North Forest which went 10-2 last season in Class 5A.

Bridge City plays defending Class 4A Division II champion and No. 2 West Orange-Stark on Sept. 9 before traveling to Newton Sept. 16 to face the 3A No. 6 Eagles.
