Bruce hitless in first Mets game, but wins

West Brook graduate Jay Bruce went 0 for 4 in his first game with the New York Mets.

He didn’t have to get a hit. The other eight starters lined at least one.

Bruce, 29, arrived in New York on Tuesday, one day after his trade from the Cincinnati Reds, and helped the Mets beat the crosstown rival Yankees 7-1. Alejandro De Aza highlighted the win with a two-run homer.

Bruce has 25 home runs this season, ranking him tied for ninth in the major leagues with five other players including Toronto’s Josh Donaldson and Boston’s David Ortiz. Mark Trumbo of Baltimore leads the bigs with 30.
