A 5-year-old special needs child drowned in a bathtub at her home on Saturday.

Port Arthur Police and fire rescue were called around noon to Valley View Estates, 5801 Twin City Hwy. where they found a special needs child unresponsive.

The child was brought to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas and pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Pct. 8 Tom Gillam III around 12:55 p.m., according to a press release from PAPD.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Child Protective Services are investigating along with PAPD detectives.
