PORT NECHES — Bond is set at $15,000 for a woman charged with stabbing her brother-in-law after confronting him about injuries to her four-month-old nephew.
Gabrielle Rasberry, 24, of Port Neches is being held in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine said detectives are still interviewing witnesses and the investigation is ongoing.
The alleged stabbing stems from a disturbance that happened around 11 p.m. Monday, June 20 at a home in the 100 block of Sycamore in Port Neches.
Lemoine said the mother of the infant arrived home to find the child crying and noticed blood on the bed and the child’s mouth. She questioned her husband who said the infant had fallen off the bed.
The mother did not believe the story and took the baby downstairs away from the father.
The sister of the mother overheard the argument and confronted the child’s father about the injuries
Police contend the woman then picked up a knife and stabbed the man in the shoulder.
Acadian EMS arrived on scene and the man refused medical treatment. The child was also examined and had injuries not consistent with a fall. He had several older bruises to his lower back and several cuts in and around his mouth. The child was brought to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas for treatment.
Lemoine said four adults and nine children live at the home and there are three families with three children per family.
In addition, there is an older couple staying in a trailer that assists with caring for the children who range in age from four months to seven-years-old.
Shari Pulliam, media specialist with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, confirmed that Child Protective Services took custody of six of the children and three of the children were placed with a family member.
