THIBODAUX, La. – Lamar and Nicholls have agreed to move the 2016 football contest to aThursday night announced the Colonels Media Relations Office Wednesday afternoon. The game, which was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m., has now been moved to Thursday, Nov. 3and will kick off at 6 p.m.
The Cardinals agreed to a similar move last season in their contest at Southeastern Louisiana. It will mark the first time since resurrecting the program that LU has played at least one Thursday evening game in consecutive seasons. Last year’s move was to accommodate the Southland Conference’s television package, but the league has not yet released its 2016 television lineup.
In addition to the date change versus Nicholls, the University of Houston announced the start time for theSaturday, Sept. 10 game against LU. That game will kick off at 11 a.m. and will be televised on ESPN3. In addition to the game at Houston, all LU home football games will be televised on ESPN3 as well. The game against the Cougars will be LU’s first morning kickoff since the sports return.
Big Red faces a daunting schedule in 2016 opening the year Saturday, Sept. 3 against Coastal Carolina, who spent a majority of the 2015 season ranked among the FCS top five and advanced to the playoffs. Although many preseason polls have not yet been released, the Chanticleers enter the 2016 campaign ranked ninth in Athlon’s Magazine’s Preseason Top 25 Poll. The game against Coastal Carolina will kick off at 7 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium.
LU will continue with one of the strongest schedules in the country the following week when it travels to Houston to take on the Cougars, who are coming off one of the biggest Bowl wins in their program’s history and finished the year ranked eighth nationally. The Cardinals return home the following week to open conference play against Sam Houston State.
