A Nederland visiting a friend in Amarillo was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident where the driver fled the scene.

The victim has been identified as Jana Rae Pitman, 28.

Amarillo Police were called to the Interstate-40 north service road and Alice Street at about 4:40 a.m. June 5 on a report of a person struck by a vehicle, according to a press release from APD.

The victim was brought to a hospital where she died from her injuries and Justice of the Peace Richard Herman ordered an autopsy.

Amarillo Police are searching for the vehicle involved in the incident, which is described as possibly a red vehicle with front passenger side damage.
