Three Lamar track athletes are set to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Track and Field Championships, the prelude to the national meet, May 26 at the University of Kansas’ Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.

Verity Ockenden will compete in her second straight regional 1,500 meters. She fell just three spots short of the mark needed to qualify for the 2015 nationals in Eugene, Oregon, although she turned in a Lamar-record 4 minutes, 19.95 seconds. Athletes who finish in the top 12 at the prelims advance to nationals.

Ockenden also will run the 5,000 meters. She won that event at the Stanford Invitational with a season-best 16:14.81.
