Nederland’s Wong drops first-rounder

COLLEGE STATION — Nederland’s Jayci Wong saw her outstanding freshman season of tennis come to an end Monday in the UIL state tournament.
Grapevine senior Samantha Wong, no relation to Jayci, defeated her 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of girls singles at Texas A&M, although many games went to deuce.
Jayci Wong qualified for state by finishing second in the 5A Region III tournament after winning the District 22-5A championship.
