Bellville rings up first loss for Bridge City

BAYTOWN — The Bellville Brahmas put together a 5-2 victory over the Bridge City Cardinals in Game 1 of their best-of-three Class 4A area round playoff series Friday night at Goose Creek Memorial High School.
Game 1 got off to a late start as rain moved across the Baytown area. The first pitch did not happen until right after 8 p.m.
Game 2 of the series will be back at Goose Creek Memorial at 1 p.m. today. Game 3, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes later.
The Cardinals went up early 1-0 when Kevin Gordon drove in Derick Dearing with a infield single.
Bellville went up 2-1 in the top of the fourth, but the Cardinals bounced back to tie it at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning.
The Brahmas went ahead to stay by tallying two runs in the top of the sixth and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
