Lamar 4×100 women claim first SLC title

CORPUS CHRISTI — The Lamar women’s 4×100-meter team of Janay Stanton, Deja Phillips, Dominique Taylor and Erin Derrow turned in a near-school record time of 45.85 seconds Sunday in winning a Southland Conference outdoor championship.
The same group ran 45.66 in their final regular-season meet. Now, they gave the Cardinals their first-ever 4×100 women’s championship.
Verity Ockenden also won her second straight title in the 1,500-meter run. Her winning time was 4:33.33. She also placed second in the 5,000 meters.
Iliass Aouani won the 5,000 meters in 14 minutes, 40.95 seconds.
Nathan Gillis came in second in the 800 meters. Sarah Shim was third in the women’s 400.
Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State won the men’s and women’s team championships. Lamar’s men placed seventh and the women eighth.
