Kenneth Carol Mitchell was born August 25, 1926 to Thomas Andrew and Myrtle Mitchell. He grew up in Henleyfield, Mississippi the oldest of five children. He always had a sense of humor and loved to argue. Growing up during the depression in Mississippi was financially difficult and Kenneth worked odd jobs to help out, hauling stumps, and briefly for a government surveyor. In March of 1945 Kenneth graduated from McNeill High School and just three weeks later was drafted into the Army. On October 9, 1945 he was shipped to Japan. The story he later told his children was that when the Japanese heard he was coming, they surrendered. He served in Japan as a clerk at Headquarters Eighth Army and he was Honorably discharged in November 1946.

After his Army discharge he enrolled in Pearl River Jr. College and attended for a year before work opportunities lured him to the Great State of Texas. He met and married his beautiful bride Jerry Sanderson in December 1950. Four years and two children later Kenneth and family moved into the home he built himself, with help from friends and family. Mitchell, as he was called by his wife, family and friends, was a loving husband, proud father, silly grandfather and amazed great grandfather.

He was a member of the Nederland Masonic Lodge for over 60 years during which he served as Master, Secretary, and District Deputy and enjoyed the fellowship and friends made during that time.
