PORT NECHES — Councilmembers in Port Neches are set to review rules on parking and storage of recreational vehicles during the 4 p.m. meting on Thursday at city hall, 1005 Merriman.
Current rules prohibit parking RV’s on a street for longer than three hours and does not allow habitation unless in a mobile home park. Surrounding cities have regulations in place regarding the types of surfaces RV’s may be parked on, distance from property lines and length of time it may be parked and/or stored, according to information from the city.
The city of Groves recently held a meeting to discuss the issue after several residents in that city received notices of violations and new verbiage is under consideration.
Council will not take action on the issue at the meeting, as the issue is to receive comment, suggestions and questions.
Council will also consider bids for the police station heating, ventilation and air conditioning repairs and replacement and additional ancillary repairs during the meeting.
Councilmembers previously learned of HVAC issues on the court room side of the police station and and Sigma Engineers Inc. prepared plans and specifications for the work which wil include replacement of the existing HVAC units, new ducts and minor roof and façade repair.
Three bids were received; D&R Commercial Construction at $214,050, L&L General Contractors at $246,192, and McInnis Construction at $248,380. Staff and Sigma viewed the bids and recommend using the lowest bidder, D&R.
In addition, council chambers will likely be used for a short time to conduct municipal court while repairs are made.
Other agenda items include:
- Receive comments from Dr. Chris Riedel or Orange regarding fluoridation of the city’s water.
- Discuss and take action regarding an ordinance abandoning an alley located between 1815 Ninth St. and 1817 Ninth Street and authorizing the sale of the property.
- Discuss and take action regarding the approval of the second reading of a resolution authorizing Port Neches Economic Development Corporation to grant funds to Vice Ventures LLC. The PNEDC previously approved funding to Vice Ventures for façade improvements to commercial property at 1002 Magnolia Ave.
- Discuss and take action regarding the approval of Main A lift station pump repairs. The pump serving the lift station is currently not functioning properly and is in need of repair. The cost for repairs is $17,273.90.
