Lamar assistant Anderson steps down

Anthony Anderson has stepped down as Lamar’s assistant men’s basketball coach, the university announced Tuesday.
Anderson was one of three assistants Tic Price hired to complete his staff when Price was elevated to full-time head coach prior to the 2014-15 season. The university said in a release that Anderson resigned to pursue other career opportunities.
“We certainly will miss Coach Anderson,” Price said in the release. “But we want to thank him for his effort and loyalty to the basketball program. We wish him and his family well in all his future endeavors.”
Anderson came to Lamar from St. Paul’s School in the New Orleans area, where he was an assistant coach. Known as a standout recruiter, Anderson also held positions at Florida International, TCU, SMU, McNeese State and New Orleans. Anderson was a starting guard at McNeese State from 1992-94 and earned his bachelor’s degree from there in 1995.
Anderson helped Lamar organize a big single-season turnaround in his first year on Price’s staff. After Lamar had won only seven games in two seasons under Pat Knight and Price (then on an interim basis), Lamar won 15 games, which was an 11-game improvement from 2012-13.
Lamar had three players leave the program last month following an 11-19 campaign (3-15 in Southland Conference) in sophomore guard Kevin Booze, freshman forward Boaz Williams and junior center Christian Kennedy. The Cardinals last Wednesday landed Lamar State College Port Arthur center Christian Albright and Hill Junior College guard Joey Frenchwood to complete an incoming class of five for the 2016-17 season.
LSCPA swingman and Nederland alumnus Colton Weisbrod, Central High swingman T.J. Atwood and Carrollton Newman Smith guard Cameron McGee committed in November.
