Woodville track students involved in wreck

JASPER COUNTY — A Woodville Independent School District school bus carrying track students was involved in a one-vehicle accident near Kirbyville on Thursday afternoon.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety in Jasper County were working to determine why the bus travelled of the roadway into a ditch. The bus rolled over several times before coming to rest in an open field on FM 1013 around 3 p.m. March 31, according to a press release from the DPS.
At the time of the crash there were 33 occupants on the bus, which included 30 students, two coaches and the driver.
Two of the occupants were sent via medical helicopter to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with unknown injuries.
A majority of the occupants were transported to area hospitals, which include Jasper Memorial Hospital, Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
The school bus was not equipped with seat belts and the wreck comes days after the 10 year anniversary of the Westbrook High School crash in which two members of the girl’s varsity soccer team were killed on the way to a playoff game.
