PREP ROUNDUP: Bulldogs blow out Panthers

NEDERLAND — Caine Williams started Nederland’s rout with a three-run double in the first inning, and the Bulldogs hardly let up Tuesday in an 11-1 District 22-5A win over the Ozen Panthers.

Case Babino lined a two-run double and a passed ball led to another run in the second inning. Nederland also added a run each in the third and fifth innings and added three in the sixth, holding off Ozen to invoke the mercy rule.

Zach Friesz had two hits to lead Nederland. Brendon Dunkleberger struck out three in the first 1 1/3 innings to get the win, while Williams struck out four in the next 2 2/3 and Brock Fenn two the rest of the way.

BRIDGE CITY 7, SILSBEE 2

BRIDGE CITY — Tanner Doiron and Tod McDowell combined to throw a one-hit masterpiece, and Bridge City (11-4-1) marched to a 7-2 win over Silsbee on Tuesday.

Doiron gave up the only earned run and one hit but struck out four in 5 1/3 innings for the win. McDowell wrapped up the final 1 2/3 without allowing a hit.

McDowell also batted 3 for 3, and Caleb Dubois was 2 for 3 for the Cardinals.

SABINE PASS 3, HULL-DAISETTA 0

DAISETTA — Sabine Pass scored all of its runs in the seventh inning to break a scoreless deadlock and go on to beat Hull-Daisetta 3-0 on Tuesday.

Brayden Miller scored the first run stealing home plate on Dominic Gillette’s at-bat. Brayden Brousard singled to center field to score Dahlton Gonzales and Gillette. 

Jerimiah Fielder struck out eight and allowed three hits in a complete-game victory. Kade Frauenberger of Hull-Daisetta struck out 10 in a two-hit gem.

SOFTBALL

PN-G 23, CENTRAL 0

PORT NECHES — Seven Lady Indians swung for two or more hits, and Port Neches-Groves needed only three innings to beat the Lady Jaguars in District 22-5A.

Bayja Newby was the only player with three hits, but she was perfect at the plate, scored three runs and drove infour. Kaitlyn Boudreaux, Rachel Hammersmith, Alexis LaBure, Callie Jourdan, Bailey Crorey and Brooke Smith had two hits apiece, Marlett Barnett also drove in four runs and LaBure batted in three.

PN-G led 15-0 after one inning and 23-0 after two. Central was outhit 19-2.

Callie Jourdan struck out five in the win.

NEDERLAND 9, GC MEMORIAL 5

BAYTOWN — Nederland broke a 5-all tie with four runs in the fifth inning and outhit GCM 13-5 in the District 22-5A win.

Madyson Guidry gave up four earned runs on five hits and fanned 15 Lady Patriots in a complete-game win. Hannah Goode drove in two runs in a 3-for-5 effort, while Hannah Smith, Madelyn Daniel, Destini Trahan and Lexi Eversole (two RBI) each tallied two hits.

GCM led 4-2 after two innings, but Nederland charged back for the lead with three runs in the fourth. That’s when GCM scored the tying run.

BOYS SOCCER
PA MEMORIAL 2, BOB HOPE 0
In Port Arthur, Juan Lua-Barraga and Jose Garcia scored goals, and the Titans scheduled a late-season game with Bob Hope to warm up for Thursday’s 6A boys playoff game against Pasadena Dobie.
Raul Estupinan assisted on Lua-Barraga’s goal almost 6 minutes into the match. Garcia took a pass from Sergio Sanchez to capitalize almost 8 minutes into the second half.
Arturo Villarreal made eight saves. Memorial had 15 shots on goal to Bob Hope’s eight.
Memorial faces Dobie at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas Center in Beaumont.
