Albert Harrison Kiber, Jr., 81, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Pasadena, Texas. He was surrounded by family and friends. Albert was born August 26, 1934 in Port Arthur, TX to parents Albert Harrison Kiber and Mary Frances (Lively) Kiber. Mr. Kiber’s family ran the Tri-City Cafe at the corner of Crockett and Pearl streets in Downtown Beaumont for 40 yrs. Albert’s grand-father, Albert L. Kiber, built the historic home at 1308 Liberty in 1902. Mr. Kiber attended Robert E Lee High Scool and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Al served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class for two years. Al landed a job working for the welfare department as a Food Stamp Investigator and retired with 30 years of service. Mr. Kiber’s leisure activities included coaching basketball at First Baptist Church, where he earned the nickname “Coach”, playing tennis, and teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church Pasadena.   Al is preceded in death by his wife, Lorine Kiber; parents Albert and Mary Frances Kiber; sister-in-law, Melba Lawson; brother-in-law Billy Joe Lawson; cousin-in-law, Lee VanBrocklin; his childhood dog, Spot; and countless others. Albert is survived by his brother, Robert Kiber; daughter, Sarah Mahan; son-in-law, Stephen Mahan; grand-son, Michael Moffitt; grand-daughter, Katelynn Mahan; Aunt, Marjorie Rhodes; cousin, Janet Vanbrocklin; nephew, Lynn Lawson; niece Laura Barr, niece, Kristi Barr; niece Maura Joy; and many more loving family. The family has asked that visitors and funeral attendees wear either Texas Longhorn clothing or U.T. color burnt orange.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 2:00pm also at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
