Man dead following officer involved shooting in Beaumont

BEAUMONT — The investigation continues into an officer involved shooting that left a man dead in Beaumont on Saturday.
Beaumont Police were dispatched about 4:30 p.m. March 5 to the 600 block of 23rd Street in reference to an auto theft at that address and the caller told police the suspect was armed, according to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department.
While on scene, the armed suspect exited the home and confronted officers. At this time an officer fired his weapon striking the suspect.
The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Herbert Balance, 22, of Beaumont.
The officer was placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard procedure. The investigation continues and is on-going.
