PREP ROUNDUP: Memorial routs Northbrook after loss to Orangefield

LUMBERTON — Coming off a tough one-run loss to Orangefield, Port Arthur Memorial came away with a win in the Lumberton tournament Thursday.

In its 13-5 rout of Houston Northbrook, David Torres jacked a two-run home run and finished with three RBI on two hits. Devuan Anderson went 3 for 4, slapping two doubles.

Kevin Cruz Lugo (two RBI), Carlos Granados (RBI) and Bra’Shaud Johnson (two doubles) each finished with two hits. Ramiro Sanchez drove in three runs on one hit for Memorial (3-4).

Joe Chretien held Northbrook to one hit and two earned runs in four innings, striking out six and walking three.

Orangefield edged Memorial 4-3 despite strong pitching performances by Anderson and Lugo. Anderson allowed two earned runs on one hit, but walked three in 2 2/3 innings. Lugo, in relief, held the Bobcats to one earned run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Lugo and Anderson each went 1 for 3. Lugo doubled and drove in a run. Anderson stole two bases.

The Titans will take on Huntington at 5:30 p.m. today.

PN-G TOPS SUMMER CREEK, THEN FALLS

DEER PARK — The Port Neches-Groves Indians baseball team went 1-1 at the Gary Herrington Tournament on Thursday.

PN-G (3-4) first defeated Summer Creek 2-0 behind 6 2/3 innings from Trey Toney. He struck out three and allowed two hits and two walks.

Adam Morse went 1 for 3 with a double and Logan LeJeune also was 1 for 3. Carter Henry was 1 for 2 at the plate.

Bellaire Episcopal then defeated the Indians 8-5. Morse was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBI and LeJeune was for 1 for 2 with a run. Henry was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Austin Bost was 1 for 3 with two RBI.

Dylan McGough pitched 2 1/3 and gave up three hits and three runs.

PN-G will face Bridge City at 4 p.m. today and Deerk Park at 6:30 tonight. Both games will be played at Deer Park.

NEDERLAND GOES 1-1 AT CLEAR CREEK

LEAGUE CITY — In the Clear Creek ISD tournament, Nederland rode a complete game from Brayden Credeur to beat Katy Seven Lakes 6-1.

The Bulldogs then fell to Clear Creek 10-9, dropping to 3-4 on the season. Nederland faces Clear Lake at 12:30 p.m. today and La Porte at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Clear Lake High in Houston.
