North Shore wraps up 21-6A boys title

Port Arthur Memorial’s loss to West Brook on Friday has come back to haunt the Titans.

With the defeat, North Shore barely wrapped up the District 21-6A boys basketball championship Friday night, beating La Porte 67-65 on the road. A Memorial win would have set up a head-to-head battle in Houston on Tuesday for the championship in both teams’ regular-season finale.

Instead, Memorial (13-13, 7-4), which has lost two straight, needs to win just to secure second place outright. Deer Park (11-12, 6-5) can tie for second with a home win over Baytown Sterling on Tuesday and a Memorial loss, possibly resulting in a playoff.

Sterling (12-12, 5-6) sits in the fourth and final playoff spot after beating Channelview 68-54 and plays Deer Park on Tuesday. Channelview is one game behind Sterling.

In District 22-5A on Friday, Nederland beat Goose Creek Memorial 56-36 at home and visits Lumberton for its regular-season finale on Tuesday. Nederland and Baytown Lee have secured playoff spots with 8-5 district records, leaving them tied for third at the moment.
