Masked men rob Beaumont Popeye’s at gunpoint

BEAUMONT — Two masked men took turns pointing a gun at employees at Popeye’s in Beaumont as they robbed the business Sunday night.

Police in Beaumont were called to Popeye’s Chicken, 6432 Phelan Blvd., in reference to a suspect holding a gun to the head of an employee during a robbery at about 9:25 p.m. Jan. 3, according to a press release from BPD.

One of the employees said that she was cleaning the front counter area, when two black men entered the restaurant through the front door. The men were dressed alike, wearing dark gray hoodies, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.

The suspects had the hood over their head and their face covered with some type of scarf or bandanna. Both subjects were wearing gloves. One of the men brandished a silver handgun and demanded money.

One of the suspects grabbed her by her hair and pulled her behind the counter to the store safe in the cooking area. The other suspect jumped the counter, holding two shopping bags. Both men were yelling at her to open the safe but she couldn’t open it. A manager was in the area of the safe and they tried to get her to open it. The two suspects kept switching the handgun between them, demanding her to open the safe, as they held the gun to her head. She opened the safe and both men took money from the safe and a register drawer. At that point one of the actors fled on foot, carrying the money in the bags through the back door and the other fled on foot through the front door.

The other employees said once they realized that the restaurant was being robbed, they fled from the location through the back door.

The suspects are described by witnesses as, two black males, both dark complexion, early 20’s approximately 5-foot six-inches to 5-foot 9-inches and thin. Both wearing gray hoodies with the hood pulled over their head. Both had on blue jeans and tennis shoes. They had their face covered with some type of bandana or scarf. Both wore gloves and they used a small silver handgun during the robbery.
