BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bulldogs just short of H-J championship

SOUR LAKE — For the second time in three days, the top-ranked 2A team in boys basketball found a way to edge Nederland in the Hardin-Jefferson Marathon.
A basket with 2 seconds left gave Big Sandy a 48-47 victory Saturday, clinching the Wildcats the tournament championship.
Nederland, which lost to Big Sandy on Thursday 51-48, had just scored 7 seconds earlier to cling to a one-point lead. Jase Miguez scored 24 points in the loss, Kevin Howard scored 10 and Darrell Jones was held to eight.
Nederland advanced to the title round by beating Hardin-Jefferson 69-60 behind Jones’ 23 points. Miguez added 22 and Howard scored 11.
The Bulldogs will host Port Arthur Memorial on Tuesday.
Houston Furr 65, PA Memorial 63, OT
MONTGOMERY — A 39-25 halftime lead would not hold up for the Titans, and Furr ended Memorial’s run in the Streater-Smith/Schurr Insurance Tournament.
Memorial expanded a four-point first quarter lead with a 23-13 second quarter. It was tied at 60 at the end of regulation.
Darion Chatman had 15 points and Thailan Wesley netted 10 for the Titans.
