Cardinal women land four for 2016-17

BEAUMONT — Lamar women’s basketball coach Robin Harmony announced the signing of four players during the fall signing period for the 2016-17 season.

Three of them, Siyana Allen, Ivana Boyd and Briana Laidler, hail from Florida. The fourth, Kyla Green, is a Memphis product.

Allen, a 6-foot wing player from St. Petersburg, was ranked the 10th-best player in Florida. She averaged 24.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 7.8 assists a game last season for Lakewood High, earning Tampa Bay Times Pinellas Player of the Year honors.

Boyd, a 5-7 combo guard from Flagler Palm Coast High, won the Daytona Beach News-Journal Player of the Year award in 2013 and averaged 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a junior. She led FPC to its first postseason victory since 1977 and ultimately to the state semifinals.

Laidler, of Spruce Creek High in Port Orange, earned the No. 48 ranking among the best post prospects by Don Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. She chalked up 10 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks a game last season.

Green scored 16 points and tallied 8 rebounds a game last year for Overton High and is ranked the 77th-best small forward prospect nationally by ESPN.
