It’s a big week for Port Neches-Groves ex Andrew Landry.

After earning a 2015-16 PGA Tour card with his play on the Web.com Tour, but not being able to gain entry into the season’s first three events, Landry will be teeing it up Thursday in the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss.
Though he’s eligible to play in any of the non-majors and non-invitational tournaments, Landry can only gain entry when the fields haven’t been filled by those with a higher priority number. With the Jackson stop not on the radar of many of the tour’s top players, Landry finally got his chance.
He’s also in the field for next week’s OHL Mayakoba Classic in Cancun and the Nov. 19-22 McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Ga. Those are the last full field tournaments until the Jan. 14-17 Sony Open in Honolulu.
While this will be Landry’s first start as a card-carrying PGA Tour member, it will be his second time to play in an official tour event. He Monday-qualified his way into last spring’s Shell Houston Open but failed to make the cut. Making cuts will be a key the next three weeks, as far as improving his chances to gain entry into some of the more popular events when the calendar flips over to 2016.
Landry, meanwhile, won’t have the benefit of playing a practice round with PN-G’s other guy on the PGA Tour, Chris Stroud.

Stroud, who is off to a good start in the new season, had originally planned to play in Jackson but decided to take the week off. He’s returning for Mayakoba and The McGladrey.
Lamar exes Shawn Stefani and Dawie van der Walt are both playing in Jackson.
CHIP SHOTS

PN-G placed eighth with a 325 and Nederland was 11th at 340 in the recent Deer Park Invitational at The Battleground in Pasadena. The scheduled 36-hole tourney was rained out after the first day. Josh Elmore paced PN-G with a 78, which was good for 16th overall.

Other PN-G scores included an 80 for Tyler Feemster, an 83 by Blake Thibodaux, an 84 for Cameron Keith and a 91 for Brian Landry.

For Nederland, Brice Perryman was low at 81. He was followed by Brandon Marley’s 84, an 87 from John Krautz, Kris Robbins’ 88 and Connor Kemp’s 93. …

Two players carded best ever rounds at Babe Zaharias. John Guidry of Port Arthur fired a 4-under-par 68. The score matched his age and the round was bogey free. Witnesses were Bert Miller, Bobby Richard and Johnny Arenas.

Also shooting his lowest round was Mike Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick’s 86 also included his best ever nine holes of 39 on the front. Jim Huebel Sr. and Gary Duncan were the witnesses. …

Congratulations to Nederland ex Shelbi Vincent. Coming off a fifth-place finish for the University of Houston-Victoria in the Alamo City Classic, Vincent was named winner of the Red River Athletic Conference’s Champions of Character Female Athlete Award. Criteria for the award are a “high level of scholarship, sportsmanship, integrity and community service.”

UHV golf coach Brian Williams said of Vincent: “Shelbi is the kind of student-athlete coaches want to represent their program. She is a hard worker and always finds time to help others in need.” …

The Babe Zaharias DogFight was played in a two-man format with nine holes of best ball and nine holes of scramble. In First Flight, the duo of Cap Hollier-Rodney Christman tied Jim Jordan-Joe Gongora at 69. The team of Raymond Darbonne-Lee Bertrand took Second Flight with a 72. Bobby
Wactor-E.T Robichau claimed Third Flight with a 70.

There was three-way tie in Fourth Flight with Gary Anderson-Allen Suire, Art Miller-Larry Rogers and Bob Moore-Ron Overstreet all shooting 79. Closest to the pin winners were Carl Hudman (No. 2), Bob Byerly (No. 7), Gongora (No. 12) and Pete Reobroi (No. 15). …

The Oct. 29 Senior Game at The Babe was played in a scramble format. The winning team with a 59 was made up of Jordan, Ed Hetzel, Bob Frazier, Hudman and Dwain Morrison. Closest to the pin winners were Raymond Darbonne (No. 2), Don MacNeil (No. 7), Bob Moore (No. 12) and Bill Jones (No. 15). …

The Oct. 24 Super Saturday Game at The Babe was played in a two-best ball format. The team of Rick Pritchett, Harrell Guidry, Larry Vicknair and Tom LeTourneau won the front with minus-7. On the back there was a tie at minus-3 between the Pritchett team and the foursome of Mark Lawson, Thad Borne, Troy Touchet and Wes McDonald. …

PN-G’s Fifth Annual Golf Classic, scheduled for this past Saturday at Babe Zaharias, was rained out and reset for Saturday, Nov. 14. There are still openings in the three-person scramble, which serves as a fundraiser for team expenses. Entry fee is $75 per person or $225 per team.
