Rain may dampen trick-or-treat plans; alternate events announced

Rainy weather will likely cause some to change their trick or treat and fall fest plans on Saturday.

Rainfall totals of between two to three inches with some locally higher amounts are expected on Saturday throughout the area.

“We’re expecting ongoing rain by the time people wake up on Saturday continuing through the morning and afternoon. We expect it to be a little less in the evening. The question mark is how much is it going to taper off,” Roger Erickson, meteorologist with the National Weather Service-Lake Charles, said.

Locally, it’s wait and see regarding Nederland Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau’s annual Trunk-R-Treat which is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday on Boston Avenue in front fo the Windmill.

“We’re waiting to see,” Diana Laborde, CEO/president of the chamber, said. “If it’s a light sprinkle, we’ll be there but if there’s torrential rain, we can’t do it, it won’t be safe for the kids.”

Laborde is crossing her fingers in hopes of good weather in order to hold the event.

“As long as it’s safe for the kids, we’ll go forward,” she said.

Interested persons can check the Chamber’s Facebook page for updates. A decision should be announced by 2 p.m. Saturday.
