TJ principal, 3 teachers to make presentations at conference

Dr. Barbara Polk, the driving force behind the state recognized Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and three teachers, have been chosen to make presentations at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) in Austin, October 25-27.

Gay Mallari, Fred Owens, and Kenya Moses will present “Teaching Math to Low Income Students Who Have Never Passed a State Assessment”. Dr. Polk will present “Ten Steps to Sustaining School Turnaround in the Face of Changing Standards”. Texas ASCD is the premier influential leader in learning, teaching, and achievement in education. It has a diverse membership of approximately 2,000 superintendents, principals, curriculum directors, staff developers, students and professors.

Recently, other members of the faculty, Taunjaerina Drake, Tanuya Worthy, Maline Williams, Eric Charon, and Dr. Polk presented at the College Board National Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, where they discussed the implementation of Restorative Discipline on their campus.
