Man hit by vehicle identified; police seek public’s assistance

At approximately 12:40am on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, there was an auto-pedestrian crash in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 near mile marker 877 in Orange County.

There is very limited information on this crash, however Troopers were able to ascertain that a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of Interstate 10 near mile marker 877.  Troopers suspect that the pedestrian may have been lying in the inside lane or had fallen down in the inside lane of Interstate 10 when he was run over and killed by the unidentified vehicle.  The vehicle that ran over the pedestrian did not stop.

The Texas Department of Public Safety did not positively identify the victim until earlier Monday morning.  The victim, Chad Eugene Shields (41) of Orange, Texas, was pronounced dead at the crash scene on Friday by Justice of the Peace Judge Rodney Price.

Troopers continue to investigate this fatality; however, there was no physical evidence recovered at the crash scene.  The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help to locate the vehicle that ran over and killed Chad Shields.  If you were traveling in the area of Interstate 10 near mile marker 877 around 12:40am on Friday, October 9, 2015 and noticed anything suspicious, please contact the Texas Department of Public Safety at 936-699-7340.  This telephone is answered around the clock and messages should be left for Trooper Philip Brady.
